Off Square Theatre season—In the their new Center for the Arts Theatre space—debuts with Peter Pan!

Jackson, Wyoming – Jackson Hole will be Neverland for five days this spring as the Off Square Theatre, Wyoming’s only fully professional theatre company, launches its 2007 season with J.M. Barrie’s musical Peter Pan!, March 28 – April 1. The six scheduled performances also mark the debut of the company in the new Center for the Arts.

Open auditions were held to cast young local talent as well as professional, adult actors, in the classic tale of a boy who refuses to grow up. The addition of a live pit orchestra and actors flying through the air under the guidance of renowned behind-the-scenes aerialist experts Flying by Foy, who first helped Mary Martin take flight in the original Broadway musical, will help make Off Square Theatre’s Peter Pan! the first production of its kind in Wyoming. Flying by Foy’s copyrighted equipment and techniques are considered the industry standard for creating magical flight on stage; the company has launched such diverse actors as Sally Field in The Flying Nun and Chris Farley on Saturday Night Live, as well as Broadway productions from Peter Pan to The Lion King.

“Our audience will be astounded by what they will see in Peter Pan!,” says Off Square’s Producing Artistic Director John R. Briggs. “We’ve hired Flying by Foy to make certain that Peter soars across the Jackson stage. In addition, this is the first performance in the history of Jackson that will feature a 10-piece live pit orchestra. My goal is to give our youth performers, along with our audience, a professional theatre experience unlike any they’ve had in the past.”

The Off Square Theatre is the resident company at the Center for the Arts. Peter Pan! will be the first theatrical performance in the new space, which has been built with specifications to rival professional theatres across the country. Unlike other theatres, the Center for the Arts boasts a lobby with broad views of Jackson’s Snow King Mountain.

With lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, music by Marc Charlap and additional music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Comden & Green, this spectacular show will offer such musical gems as “I’m Flying” and “I Won’t Grow Up.” Peter Pan! explores what happens when you fly toward your dreams. After meeting the mischievous Peter Pan, the Darling children—Wendy, John and Michael—fly into thrilling adventures with Captain Hook and his pirates, the Lost Boys, a Croc with a clock, Tiger Lily and, of course, Tinker Bell.

Peter Pan! runs March 28 through April 1, 2007, with evening performances at 7 p.m.; Saturday matinee at 2 p.m.; and Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. Single ticket prices start at $31.00 and there are six subscription packages to choose from. In addition, an Opening Night Gala will be held on Friday, March 30.

The Off Square Theatre Company was founded in 1998. After eight great years in the historic Pink Garter Theatre space, the theatre company will move into its new Center for the Arts home in February 2007. For additional information, contact Emy diGrappa at 307.733.3021 or visit www.offsquare.org
