Back by Popular demand! Petticoat Rules is a Jackson Hole original musical by local composer and pianist Pam Drews Phillips and NY writer Mary Murffit.
Petticoat Rules
is the story of five incredible Jackson Hole women who ran for town council, mayor and sheriff at a time when women didn’t have the right to vote… AND THEY WON! Their story was written up in the biggest newspapers of the time and may have been part of the catalyst for the ratification of the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote. Many of the family names still survive in Jackson. The musical also follows the story of Cissy Patterson, a modern woman of American and European society and definitely ahead of her time. She came to Jackson Hole prior to the 1920’s and fell in love with the valley and with Cal Carrington – a cowboy working on the Bar BC Ranch. Cissy, the sophisticated Washington D.C. countess and Chicago Sun heiress, and Cal, the sometime horse thief and first-rate ranch hand and guide, became legendary. Their on-again/off-again romance lasted for years. With a cast of twelve and a five-piece band this is a full-scale musical production, and is appropriate for the entire family!
